18+ Exempt Supported Accommodation

Continued Support Toward Full Independence

Our 18+ Exempt Service supports young people who have recently received their asylum status and are beginning life with full access to public funds.

This moment often brings relief, but it also comes with pressure, new systems to understand, new decisions to make and a level of independence that can feel sudden and unfamiliar.

At Next Phase Housing, we create a steady, reassuring environment where young people can adjust at their own pace.

Instead of overwhelming them with information, we guide them step by step, helping them turn their new opportunities into real progress.

What We Focus On

Within our 18+ exempt supported accommodation, we support young people with:

  • Settling confidently into their new rights and responsibilities

  • Managing money benefits and essential tasks, including official correspondence

  • Exploring education work and training pathways at their own pace

Frequently Asked Questions

This service is for young people aged 18 and over who have received a positive immigration decision and have access to public funds. It supports those who are ready to take the next step toward greater independence but still require structured, supported accommodation.

Young people receive personalised, trauma-informed support focused on developing independence. This includes regular one-to-one keywork sessions, support with managing benefits and finances, applying for social or council housing, maintaining a tenancy, attending appointments, and building daily living skills within a stable and supportive environment.

Support is designed to reduce reliance on services over time by building confidence, routine, and practical skills. We help young people understand their responsibilities, prepare for employment or training, and plan realistic long-term housing options at a pace that feels manageable.

Length of stay depends on individual needs, progress, and readiness for move-on accommodation. Support is reviewed regularly with the young person and relevant professionals to ensure the placement remains appropriate and focused on achieving long-term independence.
